LSO Welcomes 2024-2025 Conductor: James C. Schuster
James retired in 2023 as the Director of Band and Orchestra at Davison High School after 26 years of teaching. His dedication to music education has left a lasting impact on students and the community, earning him numerous accolades throughout his career. Notably, he was honored as the Davison Educational Foundation Teacher of the Year and has received the MSBOA District III Teacher of the Year award. However, among his highest achievements are his former students, now band directors, who share their love of music with young musicians.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Michigan State University and his Masters of Arts in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. His primary instrument is the French Horn, which has been a central element of his teaching and performance career.
James came out of retirement and is currently teaching beginning band classes at Hahn Intermediate School in Davison. Additionally in his spare time, he co-conducts the New Horizons Band at the Flint Institute of Music. The University of Michigan-Flint has also managed to capture a moment of James’ time as he is a member of their brass faculty. He loves to travel and spend time at the family cabin in National City.
Please join us for our holiday concert on December 20th at 7pm at the Imlay City Performing Arts Center!
